If Congress wants to enjoy a rebound in its approval rating from the current paltry level of 10 to 15 percent, it should see to it that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., resigns, says Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee.
"If Nancy Pelosi would resign, the approval rating would skyrocket by 20 points,” he said in an interview with Fox News, The Hill reports. “She's the most unpopular member of Congress."
The bulk of the decline in congressional approval ratings has taken place with Pelosi as House Speaker – a post she occupied until 2011 – and while Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., has been majority leader in the Senate, Priebus said.
"Here's the deal," he said. "Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid ran the Congress and the Senate for two out of the three years Barack Obama has been president . . . So all of the whining and complaining, they should just look in the mirror, and they can find the culprits."
Priebus was alluding to comments Pelosi made Monday night on PBS’ “Charlie Rose Show,” in which she attributed Congress’ lack of popularity to Republicans’ opposition to the agenda of President Barack Obama. "I don't approve of the Congress, so count me among them," Pelosi said when asked about the low approval ratings.
