Obama “Personally Courted” Arizona Senate Candidate Richard Carmona
“‘On September 23, President Obama Called Richard Carmona To Encourage Him To Run,’ Said One Democratic Strategist.” (Alexander Burns, “Obama Courts Ariz. Senate Candidate, May Contest State 'Heavily,’” Politico, 10/06/11)Carmona Was “Personally Courted By President Obama.” “Carmona is one of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee's favorite candidates and was personally courted by President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to get into the race.” (David Catanese, “Bivens Clears The Way For Carmona,” Politico, 3/27/12)
“The Democratic Party Establishment's Favored Candidate Was Personally Handpicked And Recruited By President Obama.” (“In Arizona, Democrats Bet On An Action Hero,” ABC News, 2/27/12)
“Obama Personally Called Carmona And Asked Him To Run…” “Obama personally called Carmona and asked him to run, and Carmona told The Hill in February that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (Wash.) were also among those who reached out to court him. In Unreleased Testimony, Carmona’s Former Boss Accused Him Of Being A “Living Nightmare” To Work With Due To “Extremely Angry” Behavior
Carmona’s Former Boss Cristina Beato Told House Investigators Carmona Is An “Extremely Angry” Person And A “Living Nightmare,” Saying He Had Trouble With A Female Supervisor. “But behind the scenes, his former boss Cristina Beato — a onetime supporter turned bitter enemy — was painting a very different picture of Carmona for House investigators, alleging that an angry Carmona twice banged on her door and yelled at her in the middle of the night after workplace disputes. Beato gave her testimony in secret in 2007, saying Carmona was an ‘extremely angry’ person, a ‘living nightmare’ to work with, had trouble working for a female supervisor and abused travel privileges by improperly billing taxpayers for some personal expenses, according to the testimony. When POLITICO contacted Beato recently, she confirmed her testimony and reiterated her accusations on the record, five years after she originally gave them to the House committee.” (John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, “Carmona Draws Fire From Former Boss,” Politico, 5/21/12)Beato: “I would never do this in public, but he insulted me. He tried to belittle me.” (John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, “Carmona Draws Fire From Former Boss,” Politico, 5/21/12)
Beato Says Carmona Twice Came To Her Home In The Middle Of The Night Screaming At Her And Banging On The Door. “Beato’s most eye-opening accusation involves two incidents in which she says Carmona banged on her door at her house in the middle of the night, screaming at her over issues the two disagreed on. Beato, a single mother with two children, said she refused to open the door because she was frightened of his behavior.” (John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, “Carmona Draws Fire From Former Boss,” Politico, 5/21/12)
- Beato: “I Think Any Normal Woman, When Somebody Comes In At Midnight Demanding And Raising Their Voice, Would Feel Threatened.” (John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, “Carmona Draws Fire From Former Boss,” Politico, 5/21/12)
Carmona Was Forced To Repay The Government After Improperly Reimbursing Personal Travel Expenses
“Carmona Was Forced To Pay Back The Department For Improperly Reimbursed Personal Expenses…” “Regarding the travel expenses allegation, Carmona was forced to pay back the department for improperly reimbursed personal expenses, according to her testimony, emails between senior health officials and several people familiar with the matter. … Carmona’s campaign acknowledged Friday that he repaid the government $3,580 for his travel expenses in 2003.” (John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, “Carmona Draws Fire From Former Boss,” Politico, 5/21/12)Beato Was “Extremely Concerned” He Was Taking Personal Trips And Using Drivers For Personal Errands. “Beato told House investigators she was ‘extremely concerned’ that Carmona was making a disproportionate number of visits to the San Diego and Tucson areas, where he owns homes, and was sending drivers to run his personal errands.” (John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, “Carmona Draws Fire From Former Boss,” Politico, 5/21/12)
Beato Said One Of Carmona’s Midnight Incidents Stemmed From Her Refusal To Grant Him A Taxpayer Funded Trip To Receive A Degree At His Alma Mater. “In the interview with POLITICO, Beato stood by her 2007 testimony. Beato said one of the issues that led to a midnight visit by Carmona involved his wish to visit the University of California, San Francisco, his alma mater, to receive an honorary degree. Beato alleged that Carmona wanted to pay for the trip using government funds, which she refused to allow.” (John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, “Carmona Draws Fire From Former Boss,” Politico, 5/21/12)
And This Isn’t The First Time Carmona’s Co-Workers Complained About His Behavior
“Reports Surfaced Ahead Of His 2002 Confirmation Hearing About Repeated Clashes With Co-Workers During His Tenures At The Tucson Medical Center, Kino Community Hospital And The Pima County Health System…” “While many colleagues say they never had any problems with Carmona, reports surfaced ahead of his 2002 confirmation hearing about repeated clashes with co-workers during his tenures at the Tucson Medical Center, Kino Community Hospital and the Pima County health system, including a legal dispute over his contract with the medical center that was later resolved out of court.” (John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, “Carmona Draws Fire From Former Boss,” Politico, 5/21/12)Read more: http://www.gop.com/index.php/research/comments/troubles_for_candidate_obama_personally_recruited/#ixzz1vYBgCTIE
