BRUCE: America’s expanding police state
With so much happening internationally and the number of scandals, crises and general screw-ups of the Obama administration here at home, it’s worth noting a disturbing development here on the domestic front: a rapidly expanding police state.
On my radio program last week I had the pleasure of speaking with Cheryl Chumley, a reporter for The Washington Times, about her new book, “Police State USA: How George Orwell’s Nightmare is Becoming our Reality.” The title says it all, and aptly describes the shocking transformation of what had been our free society.
We all know about the scope of National Security Agency (NSA) spying. It’s fair to say at this point in our lives that the notion of privacy is all but dead and gone. However, it didn’t start there. In her book, Mrs. Chumley takes us on a ride through history, reminding us of the original intentions of the Founding Fathers versus the assault on the original design by “21st century realities.”

Obama announces 275 US troops WILL be sent to Iraq to protect American embassy days after saying they would not return
President Obama announced on Monday evening that US ground troops 'equipped for combat' are being sent to Iraq - just days after claiming that no American soldiers would be deployed to the war-torn country.
In a letter to Congress, the president said American troops will be returning to Iraq only three years after they left and their deployment began on Sunday.
However, Obama said that their only purpose will specifically be to protect US personnel and the US Embassy in Baghdad - and not join in the fierce fighting raging outside the Iraqi capital.

URGENT: Top Democrat Senator Introduces Bill to Confiscate Guns
Democrats today live by the creed “don’t let a good crisis go to waste”, meaning that they will take full advantage of tragedies in order to advancetheir agenda.
So it came as no surprise that following the recentstabbing/shooting spree in California, both Democrat Senators from the Left coast state joined together to introduce a new gun control bill that would ultimately lead to the confiscation of people’s guns.
This despite the fact that gun control is increasingly unpopular in the United States, as people are rallying to protect their natural and inherent right to be armed from further government infringement.

Cheese Lovers Victory! FDA Relents Under Pressure from Fancy Cheese Freedom Fighters in Outraged Lib Elite Media
Yes, you can fight city hall! Or in this case, the Washington bureaucracy. At least you can — and win — if you raise your collective voices as a chorus of outrage in the liberal elite media.
Fancy cheese lovers, you can relax — it appears the feds will back off their recently announced crackdown on using wooden boards as aging platforms for the specialty cheeses.
A few days ago, we posted a piece explaining how the FDA was ready to forbid the long-practiced use of wooden boards in the aging process for artisan cheese. When news of this interruption of a cherished age-old tradition spread, all hell apparently broke loose in the drawing rooms an salons of lofty, lefty media…because, of course, this cheesy outrage just had to be the BIG, BAD cause célèbre.
We get details on the collective move to push back against DC overlords from mrc.org:

How Growing Partisanship Is Splitting the U.S. in Two
President Obama vowed to “turn the page on the ugly partisanship in Washington” during the 2008 campaign, but for the most part found it impossible to do – and is now trying to work around Congress and entrenched partisan gridlock by imposing policies through executive orders.
Related: How the 113th Do-Nothing Congress Lived Up to Its Name According to a revealing new study, the political deadlock is not just about Washington: It reflects the sharpest ideological divide within the American public perhaps at any time in recent history. Democrats and Republicans are more deeply divided along ideological lines – and partisan rage and antipathy runs much higher than at any time in the past two decades, the report by the Pew Research Center concludes.
While these trends have been manifest in national politics for years, they’ve also had a profound impact on everyday Americans. People with strong ideological views in both parties tend to socialize and befriend others who share their views – to the exclusion of anyone else. They often make decisions on where to live based on those ideological considerations, while hardliners on both sides routinely impugn the motives of those who disagree with them.
Thought for the day
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Supreme Court Rules that Cops DO NOT Need a Warrant to Search Your Home
The fall of Our Empire is at hand, Communism is here folks.

In another devastating blow to freedom, the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that police don’t need a warrant to search your property. As long as two occupants disagree about allowing officers to enter, and the resident who refuses access is then arrested, police may enter the residence.
“Instead of adhering to the warrant requirement,” Ginsburg wrote, “today’s decision tells the police they may dodge it, nevermind ample time to secure the approval of a neutral magistrate.” Tuesday’s ruling, she added, “shrinks to petite size our holding in Georgia v. Randolph.”
Georgia v. Randolph was a similar case the Supreme Court addressed in 2006, in which a domestic violence suspect would not allow police to enter his home, though his wife did offer police consent. The police ultimately entered the home. The Court ruled in the case that the man’s refusal while being present in the home should have kept authorities from entering.

With its spider’s web of local and federal rules, the US is swinging back to intrusion
America – so the song says – is the land of the free and home of the brave. It does not always feel that way. Last week the Food and Drug Administration said it would regulate e-cigarettes like normal tobacco. This is in spite of the fact there is no proof it leads people on to the real ones. Quite the reverse – the whole point is to help people kick the habit. Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles have gone further and banned e-cigarettes in public places. There is no evidence their vapour causes harm to users or bystanders. The sight of it alone is apparently offensive enough.
The US has always struggled between its impulse for freedom and a Calvinistic urge to meddle. The pendulum in early 21st-century America is swinging back to intrusion. Whether it is workplace safety, traffic, public health or social behaviour, there is a creeping impulse to micro-regulate.
IRS GAVE FBI 1.1 MILLION PAGES OF TAXPAYER DATA TO ENCOURAGE PROSECUTION OF CONSERVATIVES
It is just about impossible to keep up with all of the Obama administration scandals, but the corruption of the Internal Revenue Service ranks near the top. Unfortunately, it has gone hand in hand with Barack Obama and Eric Holder’s corruption of the Department of Justice. The perversion of law enforcement agencies for political ends is starkly revealed by the fact that in 2010, as part of its effort to stem the Tea Party movement, the IRS gave the FBI disks containing more than 1.1 million pages of documents on Section 501 non-profits, so that the FBI could selectively prosecute conservative groups and donors.
The facts, as we know them so far, were laid out yesterday in a letter from Congressmen Darrell Issa and Jim Jordan to John Koskinen, Commissioner of the IRS. The letter includes a series of emails that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has finally obtained, after more than a year of stonewalling by the Obama administration. The IRS originally told the House committee–falsely–that the disks contained only publicly available filings by the non-profit organizations. But the IRS later admitted that it had illegally transferred confidential taxpayer information to the FBI.

‘The Era Of Negative Interest Rates Has Begun’
By Ryan McMaken
Thursday, June 5th, 2014
The European Central Bank (ECB) took the unprecedented step Thursday by imposing a negative interest rate on banks for their deposits—in effect charging lenders to park money with it.The move was part of a series of measures to combat the euro zone’s growth-sapping disinflation and give a push to its stuttering economic recovery.
Business Insider announced ‘The Era Of Negative Interest Rates Has Begun’ and noted:
Specifically, the ECB cut the deposit rate to -0.1%, from 0.0%, effective June 11.This is a historic development, as it’s the first time a major central bank has cut any main interest rate to negative in a bid to spur lending and spending. The idea is that if banks aren’t being rewarded with a good deposit rate by parking their reserves at the central bank, then they will be more likely to lend it to households and businesses.
This development, while perhaps something new in a de jure kind of way, is really not a significant change in the de facto status quo in which central banks, most notably the ECB and the Fed, are continually seeking to jumpstart economies by inflating the money supply. Of course, they’ve been trying to jumpstart things for nearly six years, but surely this latest move will work like a charm.

Barbara Boxer Introduces Bill to Allow Gun Confiscation from ‘Unstable’ People
JUNE 3, 2014 10:08 PM
(Breitbart) – Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is introducing legislation to create a way to confiscate firearms from “unstable” people.
Boxer says, “We failed our children” at Santa Barbara, and this bill serves the “function” of keeping them safe.
According to The Hill, Boxer wants family members to be able to “petition the court for a gun violence prevention warrant.” If granted, the warrant would allow police to confiscate firearms from the “unstable” family member and would also bar that family member from buying more guns.
Boxer said, “Call it what you want, but we are failing our children because we have a basic task to keep them safe.”

BREAKING: Supreme Court Unanimously Strikes Down Obama’s Power Grab
President Obama has had an up and down relationship with the Supreme Court. He publicly admonished them during his 2010 State of the Union address over theirCitizens United decision, but sang their praises when they upheld Obamacare by ruling it a tax.
He may not like future rulings from the Court on Obamacare though, as they are considering the Hobby Lobby case regarding the abortion mandate provision of Obamacare and how it infringes on religious liberty. They may also soon be considering a Constitutional challenge of the healthcare law on the grounds that it violated the ‘Origination Clause‘ by being introduced in the Senate instead of the House, where tax bills are required to begin.
Could Obama be impeached over prisoner swap which brought home soldier who 'walked away' from his unit? Republicans claim deal was ILLEGAL
Barack Obama broke a federal law that he signed just six months ago when he authorized the release of five high-ranking Taliban terror targets from the Guantanamo Bay detention center in exchange for the return of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, senior congressional Republicans claimed today.
And the president may also have written a new chapter in the case for his own impeachment, according to a former federal prosecutor who helped bring the 1993 World Trade Center bombers to justice.
'The return of senior terrorists to the Taliban [is] ... a "high crime and misdemeanor",' author Andrew C. McCarthy told MailOnline.
His book 'Faithless Execution: Building the case for Obama's impeachment,' is set to be published Tuesday.
