Sunlight Foundation’s New Scout Program

Scout is an excellent new resource from the Sunlight Foundation that allows users to set up alerts to receive e-mails or text messages when Scout detects activity on your selected bills or keywords. Not only does Scout search every federal bill and regulation, the system also allows you to track legislation in all 50 states through the Open States project. The results also include references to your bills or keywords in the Congressional Record. Scout is free and easy to use. To understand more about how Scout works watch this informative video.

Once you set up an account you may also import an RSS feed from anywhere and be alerted when the feed is updated. This works extremely well with the Sunlight Foundation Reporting Group’s Follow the Unlimited Money project. You can create an alert to receive notifications any time a committee files a new electronic report with the Federal Election Commission.
